Making History Come to Life

A long time ago, in a land far away …

Well, it was a couple Christmases ago, in my living room:  My friend’s high-school-age son declared that history was a useless topic.  He went to public school, so I completely understand his point of view.  That’s why we homeschool, right?

Problem is, even some of our homeschool history subjects can be dry and easily forgotten – especially if our kids have dyslexia or another learning challenge.

But as George Santayana famously wrote in 1905, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”  Because I would rather not repeat humanity’s past mistakes, my hope is to engage our kids with history.

This website is host to some resources pages if you’re looking for unique ways to present history.  It also features a blog page, where I go into more depth about topics that interest me.  Click the ‘archive’ link in the top menu to see a full list.  I also have written a couple novels, and you’ll find them under the ‘by the Novel Historian’ tab.

My latest project, a novella combining themes from current events and history, is also under the ‘archive’ tab — look for the ‘Fixing History: Series Index’ link.  My hope is that it inspires a conversation between you and your kids about what’s important in America.

If you want further discussion topics to share with your kids, I also wrote a 10-part series about socialism.  On the ‘archive’ page, scroll down to find the ‘Love Thy Neighbor – Index’ link.

Many thanks,
